NEXT MEETING                          May 17th:
The next meeting of the Greenwood Lions Club will be held on Thursday, May 17th at 12:00 noon at the American Legion Home.

Our speaker for this meeting will be Mr. Dan Flint from Greater Greenwood United Ministries.  This organization does a great job providing assistance to the needy in the Greenwood area.  They also provide assistance to our club in that they screen and determine who qualifies for our club to help in purchasing glasses. To date this year (since last July 1) our club has spent $3,427.85 in helping those needing glasses in Greenwood.

Be with us to thank Mr. Flint for the work that this organization does for Greenwood and our Lions Club.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING:
Our Board of Directors will be meeting on Tuesday, May 15 at 12:00 noon at the Ranch House Restaurant.  We request our club officers  to be with us for this meeting and we invite any other Lion to attend also.

BROOM SALE:
This is a reminder to our members that our broom sale is being held this month.  The first day for our sale was the Saturday before you received this newsletter.  The second day will the on Saturday, May 19th.

If you failed to sign up for this fund raiser, and you can help us this coming Saturday, please give Jim Brabham a call at 223-1300 or simply show up at WalMart or Lowes to help us.

We want to thank all Lions who are giving their time for this fund raising.

OFFICERS TRAINING SESSION:
The meeting that was held on the evening of May 3rd for instructions to new officers and an orientation for new members was a very good meeting.  Our club was well represented, five members in attendance.

We were informed of a few changes in our district for the coming year:
1-     The first district cabinet meeting will be
           held on July 31st.
2-      The mid-winter banquet will be an      afternoon event this year with the meal      being served at lunch rather than      evening.

COMING EVENTS:
We expect to install our officers for the coming year at our second meeting of June, which will be held on June 21st.  Please plan to be with us for this meeting.

As usual each year, we expect to have no meeting the first week of July.  The American Legion building is normally closed this week for the “fourth of July”.

Wise Tales for a Lion:
-A three-year-old boy went with his dad to see a new litter of kittens.  Upon returning home, he breathlessly informed his mother;  “There were two boy kittens and two girl kittens.”
-”How did you know that?” asked his mother.
-”Daddy picked them up and looked underneath.” he replied.  “I think it’s printed on the bottom.”
